Interest in developing shopping malls in Romania is returning, with investors working on new projects or expansions, with a total of over 250,000 sqm, to be delivered by 2025 in cities such as Bucharest, Iasi, Craiova, Pitesti or Alba- Julia. These are the conclusions of the New Retail Conference, an event organized on Oct. 11 by the Bucharest Real Estate Club.

INSURANCE

Only 20% of the population in Romania has home insurance, according to Natural Disaster Insurance Pool (PAID) Romania Director General Nicoleta Radu who attended ReExpozitia on Oct. 13, the International Day for Disaster Reduction, at the National Library of Romania. PAID is a component of the Romanian catastrophe insurance program, a programme managed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

COMPANIES

-Austrian brick maker Wienerberger in H1 2022 posted EUR58.1 million revenues in Romania, up 25% y-o-y. The company operates in the local market via Wienerberger, Semmelrock Stein Design and Tondach Romania.

– The number of deregistered companies at national level grew by 9.62% in January-August 2022 y-o-y, to 46,304, National Trade Register Office (ONRC) data showed. By business, the highest number of deregistrations was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, motor vehicle and motorcycle repair (12,531 up 8.24%), construction (4,202 up 7.03%), professional, scientific and technical activities (3,857 up 8.65%) and the manufacturing industry (3,752 up 10.81%).

-Taco Bell, a Mexican-inspired restaurant chain, part of the Bucharest-listed Sphera Franchise Group, will open its fifteenth location in Romania this year at the end of November in the city of Craiova. The new restaurant will be in a food court and the investment will be around EUR450,000. The first Taco Bell restaurant in Romania was inaugurated in 2017, within Baneasa Shopping City in Bucharest.
